EU-Brazil cooperation workshop on IoT Policy, Regulations and Standards

The fast development and widespread adoption of IoT enables a powerful effect on economic and social development across the world. It supports the growth and competitiveness of countries and contributes to addressing global societal challenges.

The Internet of Things is leveraging the new capabilities of fixed and 5G mobile communications technologies. Opportunities in a wide range of applications are endless, including domains such as agriculture, healthcare, transport, industry, cities and tourism.

Ensuring interoperability, sustainability, and affordability of these new IoT systems and devices is critical to their success and adoption  - but it is also crucial to ensure privacy, security, and safety for all users.

In this context, the EU and Brazil are committed to further strengthening and broadening their cooperation in the field of Digital Communications and Emerging Technologies. They confirmed their interests in strengthening cooperation in IoT by supporting the exchange between experts from Brazil and Europe in this domain, with a view to understand the respective policies and explore the possibility for cooperation and alignment between Brazil and Europe.

The objective of this workshop will be to share the European and Brazilian approaches related to IoT policy, regulation and standards.

The workshop will cover topics the following areas in Europe and Brazil:

  • Policy Initiatives and Vision for IoT
  • Technology, Standards and Uses Cases for IoT
  • Cybersecurity Standards for Consumer IoT
  • EU and Brazil possible cooperation activities

Speakers at the workshop will include policy makers and experts from EU and Brazil: regulatory and supervising bodies, standards setting bodies (Ministry of Communication, ANATEL and CPQD from Brazil, the European Commission, the EU Delegation to Brazil and ETSI from Europe.
